We are a small but growing firm providing full-service accounting and HR support to a diverse set of clients, including creative, nonprofit, and mission-driven organizations. Lean and entrepreneurial, we pride ourselves on delivering clean, reliable financials while staying flexible, curious, and open to better ways of working.
Our team is collaborative, practical, and solutions-oriented. We value strong accounting fundamentals, clear communication, and systems that help clients understand their numbers — not just produce them.
The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Accountant who can take ownership of accounting functions for multiple clients and serve as a trusted partner to CFOs and senior leadership. This role goes beyond transactional bookkeeping — you’ll be responsible for producing accurate financial statements, maintaining strong accounting discipline, and helping clients interpret and rely on their financial data.
This is a hands-on role in a growing firm. You’ll both execute and help shape how the work gets done, with opportunities to review work, mentor others, and improve internal processes as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
While responsibilities may vary by client, core expectations include:
Core Accounting & Financial Reporting
Own full-cycle accounting for assigned clients, including journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and generation of GAAP-compliant financial statements.
Prepare and deliver monthly reporting packages (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow, and supporting schedules).
Ensure books are clean, accurate, and tax-ready.
Maintain adherence to GAAP and internal accounting standards.
CFO & Leadership Support
Directly support client CFOs and senior leadership with financial reporting, analysis, and insight.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis (actual vs. budget).
Identify trends, risks, and opportunities within financial results.
Support special projects such as cash flow analysis, board reporting, or system transitions.
Operational Accounting
Manage or oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, merchant processors, and other financial accounts.
Handle or coordinate payroll entries and ensure payroll is accurately reflected in accounting records.
Oversee vendor compliance and 1099 processes, including W-9 collection, tracking, and year-end filings.
Manage sales tax compliance, including monitoring nexus and coordinating filings as needed.
Maintain nonprofit and fund accounting records when applicable (classes, projects, grants).
Systems, Process & Team Support
Work across accounting platforms, including QuickBooks Online and ERP systems.
Experience with Great Plains / Dynamics GP or other ERP platforms is a major plus.
Identify opportunities to improve workflows, controls, and system integrations.
Support cleanup / catch-up accounting projects as needed.
Review work completed by other team members and provide guidance or mentorship.
Track time and tasks accurately; manage multiple clients and priorities efficiently.
Communicate clearly and professionally with clients via email and video.
Qualifications
Required
5+ years of progressive accounting experience with exposure to full-cycle accounting.
Strong accounting foundation and working knowledge of GAAP.
Demonstrated experience preparing and explaining financial statements.
Experience supporting senior finance leadership (Controller, CFO, or equivalent).
Strong experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO ProAdvisor a strong plus).
Solid Excel skills (formulas, lookups, pivot tables).
Excellent attention to detail and analytical/problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational and time-management skills; comfortable managing multiple clients.
Clear, professional communication skills in a remote environment.
Must be based in the Metro Detroit area and able to complete weekly onsite visits in Bloomfield Hills.
Bonus / Nice to Have
Experience with Great Plains (Dynamics GP) or other ERP systems.
Some tax exposure (entity returns, coordination with tax preparers).
Experience with cleanup / catch-up accounting.
Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of others.
Nonprofit or fund accounting experience.
